The nb Waymaker is a totally new concept in narrowboat design and technology. Using the latest materials and equipment, we will showcase how we can make boating more accessible for anyone.
Many people enjoy their retirement on our inland waterways. The ideas behind this boat will extend the length of time people can enjoy their boating for longer. It also gives those with accessibility needs more opportunity to take advantage of the benefits of cruising on the water.

November 2025. The nb Waymaker is currently just an artist’s impression – and a pile of HDPE sheeting recently delivered! As time goes on, we will be posting updates, with photos and videos.
Bowled over Media are filming the build for Channel 4, and will feature in a forthcoming series of “Narrow Escapes”.
Why Waymaker?
What is the meaning of Waymaker? A Waymaker refers to a person or thing that helps to build or pave a path or facilitate progress in a particular endeavour or situation. It can also refer to a guide or leader who provides direction, support, or solutions to help others navigate challenges or achieve goals.
We felt this was an appropriate name for the project. This boat will demonstrate the accessibility potential. From the little things like reducing maintenance demands, to the bigger overall design making it easier to use and live-aboard.
The design of this boat is based on accessibility from the outset. Will are also working with partners committed to making this project a success. We want to show what we can do when we put limitations aside and think outside the box.
